Students Receive an Excellent Education in Pike County Indiana

Pike County School Corporation has developed state and nationally recognized programs and is creating graduate that are ready for the workforce. It has several STEM programs throughout the school system. And, to highlight just a few honors:

  • Pike Central High School has over 50% of the high school students enrolled in Project Lead The Way (PLTW) programs.
  • PLTW Biomedical Program has a dominating Freshman-Senior rotation in the program as they learn about health sciences.
  • PLTW Engineering Program has Freshman-Junior rotation studying the various engineering professions and gathering a vast understanding of CAD programming.
  • PLTW programs heavily rely upon maximizing the STEM curriculum, while developing entrepreneurial spirit in biomed and engineering fields.
  • In 2017, the Precision Machining technical class earned first place at the Indiana Skills USA Championship.
  • Pike Central’s Welding technical course is very competitive and won first place at their 2017 Midwest Tourney. 
  • Computer science courses are steadily increasing on:
    • IT,
    • coding,
    • web design,
    • and graphics.
  • Pike Central also has various dual college credit courses available for their students.

Pike County School Corporation is preparing the next generation of workforce from Kindergarten through High School students. Kindergarten students begin learning from computers their very first week in school. Both Petersburg Elementary and Winslow Elementary have introduction to coding classes for 3rd-5th grade students. Pike Central Middle School has several technology classes that offer introduction to:

  • CNC manufacturing,
  • electronics,
  • robotics,
  • engineering,
  • CAD,
  • engines,
  • and aviation technology.

Winslow Elementary School

  • Pike County has been recognized by the State of Indiana and the United States Congress for its leadership in establishing early childhood
    education and vocational programs. Pike County was one of the first to establish a district-wide pre-school program that has contributed to high student achievement at the elementary level.
  • The vocational welding program, which has won numerous national welding competitions and championships, was given a state-wide award for program excellence. In recent years, the school district’s adult education program has been successful in increasing the number of annual GED recipients and has had a significant impact on local workforce-development affairs.

  • Congratulations to the Pike Central High School Project Lead the Way Program on their trip to the White House where they participated in the White House Science Fair!
  • Congratulations to teachers and staff at Winslow Elementary, Otwell Elementary and Pike Central High School on their awards as "Top Gainer" schools, which were based on their scores on ISTEP+ and ECA exams! The awards were given by the Indiana Student Achievement Institute, Indianapolis, IN!
  • Congratulations to the Otwell Elementary School Community for OES being named a 2011 U.S. DOE National Blue Ribbon School and Indiana Four-Star School
  • Congratulations to Pike Central High School's Project Lead the Way Program for Receiving a National Award for Excellence in STEM Education!
